Hollywood Stars Before They Were Famous

It is hard to imagine Hollywood stars outside of their fame.  The movies, red carpet, celebrity photos and paparazzi often cover up that these “stars” were once normal, everyday people.  For example, Tom Hanks worked as a hotel bellboy.  Hard to believe he had to carry heavy luggage up and down stairs.  He is not the only one:

Johnny Depp- Was a phone pen phone salesman.  Yes, that is right.  Johnny Depp sold pens via cold calls.

Russell Crowe- Or should we say “Russ Le Roq?”  The movie star was a local DJ in Australia during his young years.

Brad Pitt- Beautiful Brad once wore a chicken suit to attract customers for a fried chicken restaurant in Hollywood.

Carrie Underwood- That will be $45.10 please.  Mrs. Underwood worked as a cashier at a gas station before her talents were finally noticed on American Idol.

Denzel Washington- Brushed collars for customers in a barbershop.

Megan Fox- Although she has gained much fame from her films and modeling, this natural beauty once dressed up like a banana to attract customers into a smoothie shop.

Nicolas Cage- He started in the entertainment field early in life as he sold popcorn at a movie theater…little did he know that he would eventually return, but on the big screen.

Queen Latifah- The Queen worked at Burger King taking orders and cleaning bathrooms.

Ellen Degeneres- Drove cars out of a carwash and wiped off any remaining water.

Jerry Seinfeld- The famous comedian has sold light bulbs over phone and knock-off jewelry via a street stand.

Helpful Household Tips: Versatile Ziploc Bags

Regardless of who you decide to vote for today, you probably need a few extra tips to help make life easier around the house.  This week we are featuring the extremely versatile Ziploc bag.  This household item is in almost every home and many of the helpful uses of it are unknown.  They include:

• Ø Frosting designs- cut off the corner of a Ziploc bag and use it to decorate cakes, cookies and other confections.  No mess and easy to dispose of when completed.
• Ø Remove gum or wax- fill the clear bag with ice cubes and rub the substance until it is frozen.  Take a firm object and gently hit the gum or wax until it falls off, then vacuum up!
• Ø Store soup- place your left-over soup in a Ziploc bag and then put it in the freezer.  The soup will freeze flat and give you more room to store other frozen products.
• Ø Create your own package protector- close the bag until just a straw can fit in the top.  Inflate and place in a package to protect the cargo from being damaged.
• Ø Graham Cracker/Vanilla Wafer Smasher- need to smash up some cookies for a dessert or pie crust?  Limit the mess by placing them into the bag before they meet their maker and keep your countertop and floor crumb free.

Parent Trick-or-Treating Fun!

 

Hey parents, you have probably been lectured quite a bit on trick-or-treating safety, so we decided to list some fun things you can do tonight while you are walking with your kids or after the candy gathering has concluded:

·       Dress up with them.  Let’s be honest with ourselves for a minute, dressing up in a silly costume is pretty darn fun.  Make it even better by competing with your child for the best costume (of course you should concede at the end of the night that you lost).

·       If you are toting along a youngling in a wagon or stroller, deck that wagon out with cob-webs and decorations to make it look spooky on the street!  Don’t be afraid to put a boom box on there as well and enjoy some toons while you stroll around.

·       For dinner tonight, get some orange food dye and put it in something you normally wouldn’t.  Why yes, I would like some orange rice and orange milk!

·       Play a board game, but use candy corn or other pieces of candy.

·       Invite all of your friends over and turn it into a fun gathering.  Play games, drink punch and let the kids enjoy their costumes and candy while you socialize!

Helpful Household Tips: Use the Olive Oil

  

 

Some of the best meals are cooked in a pan; there is no doubt about it.  Many of these delicious recipes are often accompanied by olive oil as it often acts as a lubricant between your meal and the pan, but did you know that olive oil is good for more than just frying up food.   For example, a stuck zipper is often no match for a little olive oil and a cotton swab.  You can also use olive oil if you run out of shaving cream and are in a rush to get out the door.  Listed below are few other interesting uses for the popular oil:

·       Make your own lip balm.  Mix olive oil and melted beeswax in a 1:1 ratio, with an essential oil for fragrance, and say goodbye to dry and chapped lips.

·       Olive oil can be used as a safe makeup remover.

·       Put a little olive oil in your door hinges to reduce squeaking.

·       Long day of painting?  Use some oil to remove the dried up paint from your skin.

·       Condition leather.

·       Shine up stainless steel or brass around your house.

·       Fix your tangled hair and reduce further damage.
