Mr. Mayonnaise to the Rescue!

Worry not citizens of the world, Mr. Mayonnaise is here to save the day!  Mayonnaise is one of the most popular condiments in the country as it is often used for sandwiches, dressings, cooking sauces and much more but the real power of mayo goes past the kitchen.  What most people do not know is that mayonnaise can be used for both household chores and general beauty needs.  For example, did you know that mayonnaise can condition your hair, strength fingernails and even kill head lice?  It’s true, and this is only the beginning as the wonderful condiment can be used as a piano key cleaner or bumper sticker remover.  These are only a few things that Mr. Mayo can do!  Make sure you check out the Reader’s Digest article on the fascinating condiment.

What Happened in the All-Star Game?

The MLB All-Star game is supposed to be a 9 inning struggle between the best players in the world.  Great hitters, pitchers and position players fight for the right to say that their division will receive home field advantage during the World Series.  This year’s All-Star was everything but a struggle as the National League trounced its American League foes by a score of 8-0.  It was evident early on that the game would be one-sided as the National League jumped on Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander for 5 runs in the top of the 1^st inning.  They would sprinkle on 3 more runs as the game would wear on, including a 2-run shot by Melky Cabrera.  So what happened exactly?  It boils down to pitching.  The National League pitching staff was stacked with talent such as R.A Dickey, Matt Cain and Aroldis Chapman.  Obviously the American League had some great pitchers in their bullpen but when it came down to executing pitches; the National League triumphed every time.  American League pitchers were missing spots and falling behind in many counts which led to walks and pitches up in the zone.  Remember all you up and coming pitchers out there: Keep the ball down!  Hopefully next year we will see a closer game and better overall baseball

I can do what with a Banana!? Helpful Household Tips

Bananas are one of the only fruits that remain fairly cheap throughout the calendar year, which make them a great pickup for anyone who is strutting through the grocery store.  The only unfortunate thing about bananas is the annoying peel that is left over once the delicious fruit is consumed.  Worry no more!  Banana peels are extremely versatile as they can be used all over your house for a variety of things.  For example, did you know that a banana peel can be used to relieve an itch or polish your shoes?  It’s true! If your shoes are squeaky clean or if you are itch free then take that banana peel and use it to help your garden grow or make the leaves on your household plants shimmer.  It is not just the peel that can be used in the banana you know: bananas are a natural form of Botox and are a fun and healthy treat when frozen.  The uses are almost endless.  These are just a few!  For breakfast tomorrow why don’t you have your cup of coffee and banana but save both the used beans and the peel for a potent cleaning combination at a cheap price.

Chevy Volt Getting More Impressive All The Time

Just thought you might want another update on my Chevy Volt......

Now that it’s been warmer, the Volt’s electric range is much greater. I’ve had a few days where I have gotten 40-43 miles on all electric. Over the past 1,000 miles, I’ve put in about three gallons of gas (333 mpg!!), mainly because I can no longer plug in where I work so I may have a few miles on gas before I can get all the way back home.

Chevy Volt Continues to Impress

Just thought you would like another update on the Volt.....

I’m still really enjoying the car.

I started a new job where I cannot plug in......it is 30 miles from home....so on the way down I usually get electric all the way....sometimes I will have one or two miles left. I usually drive 60 or so on the highway and there there are a few miles of 40 mph driving. On the way home since I couldn’t charge, it is mainly gas....I probably get about 35 MPG on the gas.

My total mileage is 2,991 miles with 2,040 of that being all electric. The MPG calculated is 97 so far.

As expected, on the warmer days we have been having it does a little better. On the colder days, the electric range isn’t quite a far, but only maybe a few miles less. When it’s really cold (15 or so or colder), the gas engine does engage from time to time for short spurts of maybe a minute or two.

Chevy Volt - Real Answers from a Real ND Owner!

Jesse M. from Wilton recently purchased a Chevy Volt from Ryan Chevrolet in Minot. He has agreed to give us updates from time to time; to give us "real life" answers to the questions we are asked at the dealership.

Q: As with any new car, there's a "learning curve". How have you liked your Chevy Volt so far?
A: I am very happy with it....so far it has a little over 1,400 miles, with over 1,000 on all electric.

Q: How far can you travel on just an electric charge?
A: I commute from Wilton to Mandan for work. Most of the time I can get about 30 miles on a full charge and that’s been in the colder weather.....once it warms up, I hope it will be a little better.

Q: How long does it take to charge the batteries?
A: It takes about nine hours to charge fully on a 120 volt outlet.

Q: Has your Volt given you any unexpected surprises?
A: It has a neat program for my phone where I can remote start from anywhere....and it tells me how much time I have left to charge. That's pretty slick.

Q: What has been the biggest negative that you have found with the Volt?
A: About the only thing I can think which may be a negative is it requires premium gas which is about 30 cents more.....but not too big of a deal since I very rarely have to fill up. I’ve probably only had to put in about 10 gallons of gas since I’ve had it...which has been over a month...which is great!
